Exchange Club of Oak Grove honors firefighters, law officers

The Exchange Club of Oak Grove honored firefighters and law officers at the first "Service from the Heart" banquet Wednesday. The Exchange Club of Oak Grove honored firefighters and law officers at the first "Service from the Heart" banquet Wednesday.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Members of the Exchange Club of Oak Grove have shown their appreciation for local firefighters and law enforcement officers. Wednesday, four firefighters and two law officers were honored at the club's first "Service from the Heart" banquet at Provision Living.

Three of the firefighters were from Central Lamar Volunteer Fire Department.  They were Reggie Ridgway, Brittany Kinsey and Bartley Faulkner. Alvin Beasley, who was chief of the Sumrall Fire Dept. for 15 years, was also honored.   

One officer from the Hattiesburg Police Dept. and a longtime deputy from the Lamar County Sheriff's Dept. were also thanked for their courage and commitment to the community. They were Officer Benjamin Deen and Deputy Billy McAlpin.

Each honoree received a plaque and a gift bag. 

The Exchange Club of Oak Grove was founded in 2005.

    Mississippi Highway Patrol said a Hattiesburg man was killed after driving the wrong way on I-59 Friday night. Master Sergeant Brent Barfield, Public Information Officer for MHP Troop 6, said James Dawkins, 58, was driving northbound in the southbound land of I-59 when he collided head-on with another vehicle.  The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. near mile marker 52 in Lamar County.  Dawkins died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
