Kiwanis Club donates A-E-D to area school

As part of American Heart Month the Kiwanis Club of Hattiesburg has donated an automated external defibrillator to North Forrest Elementary School.

Since 2009 the club has partnered with several different organizations donate a total of 11 defibrillators to area schools, seven of which went to Hattiesburg Public Schools. This time they partnered with Southern Mississippi Electric Power Association who has been providing support to North Forrest Elementary for the past twenty years.

The defibrillator is designed to help those who may have been stricken with cardiac problems while on school property.

"The A-E-D is an easy kind of self operating system that aids students, athletes, and others on campus who may have that  type of problem," said Pam Castle, President Hattiesburg Kiwanis Club.

A total of seven lives have been saved by the donated defibrillators in the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee Kiwanis District.
