The first ever Mardi Gras parade in Hattiesburg was a big success for the city, and a big money maker for many businesses.
Thursday, Hattiesburg held it's first ever Mardi Gras parade with over 6,000 people in attendance. Some business owners along the parade route said that number caught them by surprise.
Caliente Grill Owner, Charles Arinder says "We were shocked at how many people came out. People coming through constantly getting drinks, getting food, enjoying themselves. It was a good time."
And Jimmy John's Manager, David Clark agrees "Our parking lot started filling up kind of early and there were people everywhere."
Clark and Arinder say the parade was a dream come true. Clark says "As they started coming in the parking lot they came in to buy sandwiches, also to hang out and eat on the street and have a good time.
"It was great," said Arinder. "It was the biggest day we have had in months and months and months. It was great."
Meanwhile, city officials are grateful the parade was a family fun night filled with success and no crime.
