Jeff Davis auto theft ring busted by authorities

Three sedans and three pick-up trucks were seized during a bust of an auto theft ring in Jeff Davis County Thursday. Three sedans and three pick-up trucks were seized during a bust of an auto theft ring in Jeff Davis County Thursday.

The Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Dept. and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have broken up a large auto theft ring in that county.

Jeff Davis County Sheriff Ron Strickland said the ring was responsible for selling at least six stolen autos to unsuspecting Jeff Davis County residents in the last several months. He said the vehicles were stolen from the Jackson, Flowood and Vicksburg areas.

One suspect is in custody and Sheriff Strickland said more arrests are possible.

"They had fake VIN numbers on the vehicles and they were giving them a low price if they payed cash for them," said Strickland.  He also added a warning for potential buyers. "If you get approached for a vehicle from an individual that's not a dealership or anything, selling a nice vehicle for a low price, be aware of it and make sure it's legitimate before you purchase it."

The six vehicles seized so far in the investigation include three sedans and three pick-up trucks.

Sheriff Strickland said more cars from the same theft ring may have been sold to additional residents in Jeff Davis and other adjacent counties.
