Hattiesburg Lady Tigers allowed to continue into post-season, court rules

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - On Monday, Chancery Court Judge Deborah Gambrel extended a court order injunction allowing the Hattiesburg High girls basketball team to play through March 19. The injunction will allow the Lady Tigers to play through the post-season.

As for the court case between Hattiesburg High School and the Mississippi High School Activities Association, Gambrel gave no final ruling. Rather, she sent the case to yet another recess, after which it will resume on June 25.

By that time, the school year will be over and senior guard Tiaria Griffin will be on her way to the University of Georgia.

The case stems from an eligibility dispute over Griffin brought about by the MHSAA before the start of the season. The association suspended the Hattiesburg High girls basketball team for three games at the start of the season for continuing to play her.
