Downtown Hattiesburg business leaders are celebrating another year of success when it comes to redeveloping the area and they're looking for more of the same during 2012.

On Thursday, downtown business owners and developers gathered for the annual membership and awards luncheon for the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.

Among the topics of discussion was the steady redevelopment of Front Street during 2011.

Last spring, the Oddfellows Building reopened, along with some front street shops. Those shops feature retail stores on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.

"The people who are in those shops are just extremely good promoters and I think it's just changed the way we think about downtown, things we do downtown, the offerings that people have," said Betsy Rowell, executive director of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.

Rowell says since 2000, more than $91 million in public and private funds have been invested in downtown Hattiesburg.
