Sacred Heart captures state title

CLINTON, MS (WDAM) - The Sacred Heart boys soccer team captured the 3A/2A/1A state championship Friday with a 3-1 win over Philadelphia High School. The Crusaders have won the last three south state titles, and now head coach Joe Falla adds a state championship to his team's accomplishments.

Jacob Billingsley started the scoring for Sacred Heart in the 15th minute, putting the Crusaders up 1-0. Raul Contreras and Zach Johnson added two more in the first half to put Sacred Heart up 3-0 at the break.

Philadelphia got on the board in the second half when a Sacred Heart defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal. However, the Crusaders held on in the second half to come away with the victory and take the 2011-2012 3A/2A/1A state championship.
