HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of children from the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Hattiesburg received free teeth cleanings and lots of valuable tips about good dental hygiene during an annual event Friday morning hosted by Pearl River Community College.

It was called, "Give Kids a Smile Day" and it was a learning event for both the youngsters and more than one dozen first-year dental hygiene students at PRCC.  The students spent time with each young patient, checking their teeth and reminding them of the importance of brushing and flossing.

"Well, we're still kind of new at this, so every patient we see, we get more comfortable with learning how to deal with patients and what we're going to be seeing," said student Andrea Johnson.

"I just talk to them about their daily life, what they do, what school they go to and if they brush their teeth twice a day at least and floss," said Vivyan Dinh, another student.

The event was sponsored by the American Dental Association and the South Mississippi Dental Society.
