HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg business man Dennis Hutchins appeared in circuit court Tuesday morning to face sentencing after a Forrest County Jury found him guilty of selling synthetic cannabis, or Spice, at his clothing store on Mobile Street.

Hutchins was found guilty on one count of sale under 30 grams and three counts of possession of the banned substance. Judge Bob Helfrich sentenced Hutchins to four six-year terms on each of the four counts. Two of the will terms run concurrently.

Because of prior felony arrests, including simple assault on a police officer, he will be required to serve out the full 12 years.

Hutchins could have faced life without parole because he was classified as a habitual offender.
