HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Rowan Elementary School teacher got a surprise visit to her classroom Friday afternoon.
Hattiesburg Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Bacchus and Principal Michelle Johnson stopped in to announce she had been selected as Teacher of the Year for the entire Hattiesburg School District. She was selected over several finalists from schools throughout the city.
Minor has been a teacher at Rowan for five years and Principal Johnson says her love for children is what sets her apart.
"What make Miss Denise Minor special is her love and care and the way she nurtures the students," said Johnson. "She sees beyond what the students are, their actual state and to actually nurture what she sees with-in them."
In the past three years Rowan Elementary has produced two New Teacher of the year awards and now a Teacher of the year award for the entire district.
