CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) -

One of two permanent training brigades at Camp Shelby has a new leader of non-commissioned officers.

Friday morning, Command Sergeant Major William L. Gardner II assumed his new duties for the 158th Infantry Brigade after a Change of Responsibility Ceremony at the post.

Gardner comes to Camp Shelby after a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

He takes over for Sergeant Major Robert G. Todd, who is leaving Camp Shelby for a new assignment at Camp Casey, Korea.

"My family and I are very excited to live here," said Command Sergeant Major Gardner. "We've heard a great deal about Hattiesburg and it has all come true. Everybody that we've met so far has been just wonderful to us and very accommodating," Gardner said.

"I'm going to take over the 1/72nd Armored Battalion," said Sergeant Major Robert Todd. "I have tanks, Bradleys, mortars, infantrymen. It is a combat mission and we're going to be prepared and we're going to train soldiers everyday to defend those borders," Todd said.

The 158th moved from Patrick Air Force Base in Florida to Camp Shelby in 2010.
