Con man may be making rounds through the Pine Belt - WDAM-TV 7-News, Weather, Sports-Hattiesburg, MS

Con man may be making rounds through the Pine Belt

It's believed a con man has been making rounds through the Pine Belt and scammed trusting citizens of their hard earned cash.

Jones county authorities say they have received multiple reports of a man who walks up to people's homes and says he lost his wife, child, and everything he owns in a house fire...it's all a lie, but in most case people automatically give him money and clothes to help him rebuild his life.

Authorities believe he has likely scammed people on the Mississippi Coast and in Alabama. They also believe he is traveling with another individual when he approaches his victims.

"The guy is described to be a white male. He is 5'10", 200 pounds, late 50's early 60's," say officials. "He has done this in the last few weeks, we have 8 different reports on it in the Laurel area, Bay Springs area, Hattiesburg area, and the are also two incidents over in the south point of Alabama"

If you have any information about this crime or know where this man might be, please contact the Jones County Sheriff's Department.
