GENEVA, AL (WSFA) -

A police officer who swore to uphold the law is now accused of breaking that oath.

Geneva Police Chief Frankie Lindsey confirmed that one of his officers resigned his position with the force just prior to being arrested on theft charges.

The officer, Keith Clark, is charged with receiving stolen property, which was said to be approximately $400 worth of copper.

In a statement, Chief Lindsey said, "I'm cleaning it up. I'm working through this the best way I know how."

The Chief added, "If there is anyone on this task force I don't trust, they will be investigated and will be off this task force."

The theft charge is a misdeamenor, and Clark will be required to pay fines.
