FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Kimberly Wilson and her family are pursuing animal cruelty charges against their neighbor after they returned home Wednesday to find the Wilson's family dog, Bear, beaten and bleeding in the backyard.

Allegedly a neighbor who was angry with Wilson family released their pit bulls on the animal and beat the dog with a 2x4 plank of wood.

Bear later died at a local veterinarian's office. This is an open investigation being conducted by the Forrest County Sheriff's Office.

*The neighbors initially refused to comment;  however, co-owner of the pit bulls, Casarah Graves, contacted WDAM after the story was aired, and released this statement.

"My dogs are not viscious.  They have shock collars.  It was a common dog fight...noone hit that dog."
