Pearl River Community College has received a $286,270 grant to upgrade the school's Wellness Center and construct an outdoor walking track.

The grant comes from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.

It will be used to replace all of the fitness equipment in the center and build a walking track behind the Wellness Center/Nursing Building.

"Their equipment needed to be replaced," said Sheila B. Grogan, executive director of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation. "It was worn out and they had difficulty finding replacement parts for their equipment," Grogan said.

"This gives us a great opportunity to provide new equipment, to do some updating of our facilities," said Dr. William Lewis, president of Pearl River Community College.

PRCC opened its Wellness Center in 1996.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
