LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A Jones County man convicted of child abuse, kidnapping, and homicide will be facing the Mississippi Parole Board soon for a chance to be released on parole next month.

James Pugh was sentenced to life in prison in 1989 for kidnapping, abuse, and murder of Karen Knotts, 15, of Jones County. The chance he might be released has caused outrage among local authorities.

Officials with the parole board say they are not accepting phone calls from the public, but they will accept reactions in writing. You may send a fax to 601-354-7725, or write to the parole board at 201 West Capitol Street, Suite 800, Jackson, 39201.
