Boyles takes over as Petal head football coach, athletics director

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

The Petal School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Marcus Boyles as the new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach.

"Marcus Boyles is widely considered one of the best football coaches in Mississippi and we are excited to have him and his family in Petal," said Dr. John A. Buchanan, Petal Superintendent of Education. "Coach Boyles is a perfect fit for Petal High School and his team's success on the football field speaks for itself."

Coach Boyles is a 1984 graduate of Raleigh High School in Raleigh, MS. He continued his education at Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a BSE Degree. Coach Boyles obtained his Masters Degree in 1997 from William Carey University.

Coach Boyles has a career record of 214 – 32. His teams have won 12 District Championships, 8 South State Championships, have been State Runner-up 3 times, and won 5 State Championships.

There will be a press conference Wednesday January 4, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. on the 2nd floor of the Petal High School Field House to introduce Coach Boyles and his family to the media and supporters of Petal Panther Athletics. All media and supporters of Petal Athletics are invited to attend.

    With inclement weather expected Sunday, the University of Southern Mississippi will wrap up its Conference USA baseball series with Middle Tennessee State University with a Saturday doubleheader at Pete Taylor Park. The first game will start at 1:30 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than the originally-scheduled 2 p.m. start. The second game will begin about 45 minutes at the conclusion of the opener.
