LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Doctor Ben Burnett was sworn in Tuesday for his second term as Lamar County Superintendent of Schools.

As with other districts in the state, budget cuts are a major challenge for the district. Burnett says the county to continues to grow at a rapid pace and the district is experiencing a large number in the increase of students. He says handling the increase has been a huge challenge with less money coming in from the state.

"It's one that we think we can handle," said Burnett. "We have our teachers, principles, and parents that have helped us meet the challenge in the past couple of years with less funding and we feel like we will be able to meet the challenge."

Burnett added the district has made cuts over the last couple of years that should help them get through the next couple of years.
