LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - Bishop Miles Smith, owner of Jr Smith Tool and Die, announced Monday his plan to purchase the Cooper Power Systems Plant in Lumberton.
Smith bought the old Movie Star building in 2011 with the intent to open a Tool and Die company in that location. The Tool and Die has yet to begin operations.
Company Vice President Vincent Faggard says the Cooper facility will be a stamping plant used to mass produce the casts made at the Tool and Die. He says a school will also be built in the city to train new employees.
He did not specify how many jobs would be created by the new ventures, but did say it would be a lot.
"It means a lot of good jobs, good quality jobs. It will make the quality of living here a lot better," said Faggard. "It will also make a future for our children to raise there kids here."
No timeline was given for when hiring would start or when operations would get underway.
