Pine Belt's hospitals welcome first babies of the New Year

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Pine Belt's very first baby of the new year arrived early this morning. Za'qwan Ra'shawn Poe was born at Forrest General Hospital today - the first baby of 2012 - weighing in at a healthy 7 pounds, 5 ounces.

This day every year, there's a little healthy competition between Pine Belt hospitals to see who will welcome the first little one of the new year.

Baby Nia Simone Pugh was the first to arrive at South Central Medical Center - welcomed at 8:30 AM January 1. And Aubrie Cameron was the first 2012 baby for Wesley Medical Center, born at 5:19 on New Year's Day morning.

But little Za'qwan at Forrest General was the very first - welcomed into the world at 12:52 AM, bright and early, on New Year's Day.
