HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A retired Hattiesburg engineer and co-founder of a Hub City-area Republican organization has announced he's running for congress in the 4th District next year. Ron Vincent says he's disappointed in current Republican Congressman Steven Palazzo and will run against him in next spring's GOP primary.

Vincent is a retired field engineer for General Electric and a TEA Party member.

He also co-founded the Pine Belt Republican Club, which hosted a number of candidate forums at Southern Miss earlier this year.

"Our current congressman has a worse voting record than Bennie Thompson (2nd Dist. Democratic congressman from Mississippi)," said Vincent. "He ran on a platform of firing Nancy Pelosi, but he's voting a lot more like Nancy Pelosi than a conservative congressman from South Mississippi and we deserve better than that," Vincent said.

He will file his qualifying papers after Jan. 3.

The Republican primary will be held March 13th.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
