Last minute ideas for New Year's Eve

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

As the end of December nears, so does the opportunity to ring in the new year with a bang. There are just a few days left to pack up and celebrate somewhere special.

Lyn McCrory with Pro Travel in Hattiesburg says,"As long as you can go spur of the moment, you can get some really good deals on very close destinations."

If you ask McCrory there's a couple of popular spots to watch the clock strike midnight.

Topping the list is Walt Disney World in Orlando. New Orleans, Memphis and a number of all inclusive cruises are prominent too.

"Cruises can cost about $500 a person and that would be on a five day cruise. Walt Disney World, your are looking at a family of four, probably about $3,000 for a four night package, with park hopper tickets. A road trip to Memphis would range from $150 to $300 a night for a hotel room."

Travel agents like McCrory know the ins-and-outs of booking trips, steals you can't even find yourself on the Internet.

"We do this every day and we can help you out tremendously. Be prepared to be very flexible on your destinations, don't just have one in mind, pick several locations."

If traveling is not your idea of celebrating the new year, local restaurants like the Bottling Company are gearing up for one of the most popular times of the year for folk's to dine out.

"We planned a really big party for it," said Restaurant General Manager Kalen Recob, "We are doing an all inclusive dinner and date night. it's $25 for a single person and $40 for a couple. We are really going to throw a great party."

It includes a southern style all you can eat buffet, draft beer and a champagne toast at midnight, plus live music by the band blue mountain.

"We're selling advanced tickets or we are selling them at the door. We have sold quite a few so far but have plenty left, it's a big building we have to fill it," said Recob.

Wherever you choose to ring in the new year, be safe and celebrate a healthy, happy year ahead.
