HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday when a tree went through the roof of her home and also destroyed her car.

Regina Roberts of the 600 block of Lafayette Street said she was resting in her bedroom at around 2:00 p.m. She said she heard a crackling sound and then the tree came crashing through her roof. Roberts suffered cuts to her right arm from shattering glass and an injury to her left knee from a limb that fell on it. Her car, which was parked right in back of the home, was crushed by the falling limbs and the back of her home suffered major damage.

"I was just so scared, I hollered," said Roberts. "It was so loud it was hysterical. I was just nervous and scared, but I am glad I made it out."

Roberts was looked at by medics at the scene and was later taken to the hospital by a relative to be treated for her injuries.

The next version of a bill to change Mississippi's education funding formula won't immediately increase proposed funding levels for schools, but might adjust funding upward sooner than the seven years the House proposes.
