LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel police are searching for a suspect who robbed and shot a man at a car wash on 16th Avenue.

Laurel police say shortly before 9 a.m. Friday a 911 call came in that shots had been fired at the Ready Freddy Car Wash on 16th Avenue.

Investigator Kim Stewart said, "The patrol division responded within two to three minutes. They found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back area. Witnesses escorted the victim to the laundry mat, called 911, and waited on the ambulance to arrive on scene."

Stewart said the victim was rushed to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Police said the incident happened when the suspect approached the victim while he was washing his car. The suspect demanded the victim's money, the victim handed it over without any question.

According to police the suspect took the money, pushed the victim, and then shot him in the back.

The suspect left the scene heading west on General Perishing Street.

Stewart said, "He possibly got in a black and silver vehicle. The possible suspect is going to be a black male, 5'3 -5'5 slender build with dreads. Suspect was wearing blue jeans, white t-shirt with a black hoodie."

Police said they have received several leads on this case and will continue to patrol the area very heavily until an arrest is made.
