PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Dozens of Petal families will have a Merry Christmas this year, thanks to an organization which has been helping families in need for nearly 25 years.

More than 100 families, including more than 270 children, received toys and food bags Tuesday from the staff and volunteers at the Petal Children's Task Force.

Since 1989, that organization has assisted low-income families at Christmas and Thanksgiving. The task force also helps with other needs during the year.

"All these toys were donated by clubs and organizations and businesses," said Demaris Lee, executive director of the Petal Children's Task Force. "We also have churches that help us too and without their help, we could not do this," Lee said.

"It's hard to express what this truly means and it's just an amazing feeling to know that there are great people out there pulling together for the community like this," said Sara Parsons, who received toys for her three children and some food for the holidays.

139 families received help from the Petal Children's Task Force.
