HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The vice president of the downtown location of Trustmark Bank in Hattiesburg was shot Monday afternoon and later drove herself to a local business where employees called for help.

Employees of the law offices of Percy Watson, located at the 900 block of Main Street, discovered Mary Ann Barnes outside after receiving a call from Employees of Trustmark Bank. Barnes was waiting outside in her truck, slumped over and bleeding.

Barnes' husband had called police while she was driving, and officers arrived on the scene after she parked. Barnes was later transported to a local hospital. She underwent surgery and is now recovering.

Witnesses said she had earlier been approached by a red vehicle at a Jr. Food Mart gas station at 42 and Glendale Avenue in Hattiesburg. A passenger in that vehicle walked to her car and shot her multiple times. She then drove approximately 1.2 miles before stopping.

Police urge anyone with details to call 601-582-7867.
