Loper lived alone with no phone and had no way to alert the fire department. She sat outside all night near the ashes to stay warm.
On Friday, Loper was scheduled to bury her son, but the fire left her in the ICU at Wayne General. Loper's family says she is now in a room at the hospital.
An account has been set up at BancorpSouth in Downtown Laurel, if you are interested in helping Loper, you can make all checks payable to the account benefit for Catherine Loper or contact the Jones County Sheriff's Department at 601-428-3151.
