HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Thousands of visitors braved the cool temperatures Saturday night to experience a bit of Christmas past in Hattiesburg. Old-fashioned carriage rides, Christmas caroling and other activities were part of the 36th annual Victorian Candlelit Christmas in downtown Hattiesburg.

The event showcased the historic neighborhood district which dates back to the Hub City's founding in the 1880s. Visitors took tours of some historic homes and enjoyed strolling along sidewalks lined with 15,000 luminaries.

It will all happen again on the second evening of the Victorian Candlelit Christmas Sunday night.

Meanwhile, many visitors to downtown Hattiesburg ventured indoors to get warm and check out some of the fine art in our area. A Holiday Art Walk Saturday evening featured the work of dozens of local artists.

Exhibits included the USM Sculpture Guild Exhibition at the Historic Train Depot and an emerging artists exhibit at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
