Log truck overturns in Jones County, driver killed

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A log truck overturned Wednesday afternoon 7 miles south of Ellisville on Hwy 29 killing the driver.

The driver is identified as Robert Edward Green, 63 from Waynesboro.

The accident happened at around 1:30 p.m. near JP Geddie Road in the Johnson Community. Officials say Green was traveling southbound when he apparently lost control and sideswiped a northbound 18 wheeler. Green's truck left the road and crashed rolling onto its side, and spilling its cargo. Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

A portion of Hwy 29 south in the Johnson Community was closed, and traffic had to be diverted around the scene.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

    The Lumberton Board of Aldermen voted to end the suspension of the police chief and fire the city clerk during a special-called meeting Thursday night.  On Monday, WDAM reported that the Lumberton Police Department said Chief Shane Flynt had submitted his resignation and that Phillip Ducksworth was serving as the interim police chief.
