Officials identify Jones Co. teenager killed in accident

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Zachary Mills, 19, of Jones County was killed early Thursday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 15 South near Landrum's Country in the Glade community.

Medical first responders and rescue units from Glade VFD were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m.  Upon arrival they found the 19-year old male unresponsive.

It is unknown how long the accident had occurred prior to being discovered by a passerby.  Glade volunteers searched the nearby wooded area for other victims and no one else was found.

Jones County Deputy Coroner Burl Hall pronounced Mills dead at the scene.

Apparently Mills was traveling south on Highway 15 South when his black Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck crossed the northbound lane, left the road and flipped an undetermined amount of times before coming to rest right-side up.  He was thrown out of the vehicle and was found approximately 30 feet from the vehicle.

Also responding to the scene was the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Wayne Black of the Jones County District Attorney's Office, Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna and Powers VFD medical first responder Lance Chancellor who had just completed an emergency medical call when the accident was reported.
