Escaped Forrest County inmate captured in Texas

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Forrest County inmate who walked away from a community work center detail Tuesday afternoon is back in custody after being captured in Texas.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections and The United States Marshals worked together to capture Shawn Jeffery Watkins, 32, who was serving a two-year sentence from Harrison and Stone Counties for possession of precursors and credit card fraud.

If convicted, he will face a possible five-year sentence for the attempted escape.
