HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Tuesday was distribution day for the Salvation Army Thanksgiving food boxes in Hattiesburg.
Each the organization prepares the food boxes to provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal to many of the elderly, disabled, and less fortunate people. This year about 120 of the care packages were given out.
As it is every year, the program could not be a success without the help of the many volunteers who come out to help.
"My wife got really sick and I had to make some serious adjustments in my life and relocate back to Hattiesburg with my kids while wife is recuperating," said James Lester, Volunteer. "The Salvation Army was there for us. It's our responsibility to be there for them too."
In this economic climate many people continue to struggle and the need for help from organizations like the Salvation Army gets bigger.
