USM Women's Basketball Standout Dismissed from Team

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Miss Athletic Director Richard Giannini announced Monday night that senior forward Rachel Vigers has been dismissed from the team for violations of team rules. The athletic department added that it will make no further comments on the matter.

Vigers, a pre-season all Conference USA selection, was arrested Sunday in Pearl River County and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Authorities say they found two pounds of marijuana in Vigers' pants. Vigers was the passenger in a car that was stopped while traveling on Interstate 59.

The senior forward led the Lady Eagles' basketball team in scoring in 2010-2011 averaging over 16 points per game.
