LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel residents and firefighters gathered with family members of a child who was severely burned in a house fire earlier this month to pray for her quick recovery and raise money to help with her hospital expenses.
They participated in a benefit for Ashley Taylor at the Cameron Center Saturday night.
Ashley is a 10-year-old girl who suffered serious burns during a fire at her 7th street home on Nov. 3rd. She's currently recovering in a Georgia burn center.
Two Laurel firefighters, Joel Buckhaults and Ronnie Haigler, rescued her from the fire.
"Words just can't express, on my part, how grateful I am for them and the City of Laurel, for getting my daughter out," said Jason Taylor, father of Ashley Taylor.
"We're glad that she's alive and she's in our prayers each and every night, along with her family," said Greg King, chief of the Laurel Fire Dept.
Ashley is scheduled for surgery in Georgia next week.
