Governor Barbour declares a State of Emergency for Pine Belt counties

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Governor Haley Barbour declares a State of Emergency in the four Pine Belt counties that were impacted by this week's storms.

Officials with the governor's office say the storms were responsible for damage in Jones, Jasper, Jefferson Davis and Marion counties.

The most widespread damage and injuries were reported in Jones County. That is where eight homes were destroyed, another 20 homes were damaged and 15 people were injured. Jones County Emergency Management Director said the disaster declaration will allow residents to apply for small business assistants.
