Severe weather injures 15, destroys property in Jones County

SHADY GROVE, MS (WDAM) - A severe EF 2 tornadoes moved through parts of the Pine Belt early Wednesday morning.

Fifteen injures were reported.

All the individuals were taken to a local hospital.

The area which seems hardest hit was Jones County, north of Laurel. Emergency management authorities said the most damage was along Hwy 15 north near Shady Grove. Other areas reporting damage are Bunker Hill, Trace Road, Springhill Road and Hebron.

Authorities say four people had minor to moderate injuries. 

A number of trees and power lines are also down.

As many as 35 buildings were damaged. School bus routes in Jones County had to be delayed 30 minutes to an hour Wednesday morning because of storm damage. A number of power outages have been reported in Northwest Jones County.

Power crews having been working all day to restore power.
