VFW 3036 presents U.S. Flag to Hattiesburg VA clinic

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - VFW 3036 of Hattiesburg presented a U.S. Flag to the Hattiesburg VA Clinic at a ceremony in front of the clinic Thursday afternoon.

The flag is one that at one time flew over Green Compound in Baghdad. It was a gift from the soldiers at the compound to VFW 3036 as a way to say thanks for all the troop care packages the post has sent overseas. The post had no room at their facility for the flag so they decided the clinic would be a great spot for it to be on display.

Members of the post's honor guard presented the flag to the clinic at the ceremony.

"We just wanted to put something out there that the veterans could look at," said Bill Perkins, VFW, State Junior Vice Commander. "Old Glory keeps the spirit up in a lot of us. Here at this clinic it will be represented well."

At the close of the ceremony the flag was hung in the waiting area of clinic where it will remain permanently.
