HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi High School Activities Association has placed the Hattiesburg High School girls basketball team on probation for the remainder of the regular season. According to School Superintendent Dr. James Bacus, the penalty stems from the tigers allowing senior guard Tiaria Griffin, who was deemed an ineligible player by the MHSAA, to play in their first two regular season games.
The MHSAA ruled Griffin, who is widely considered one of the top girls basketball recruits in the state of Mississippi, ineligible because of her transfer situation. She transferred from Lawrence County High School in Monticello, Miss., but may have done so in less than the mandatory 60-day period prior to the beginning of the school year.
