HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Organizers of Hattiesburg's 29th annual Veterans Day program are gearing up for the event, to be held this Friday. Wednesday, they watched as a C-17 aircraft from the 172nd Airlift Wing rehearsed a flyover of Veterans Memorial Park.
It will be one of the highlights of the ceremony, which will pay tribute to our nation's servicemen and women.
A first-ever, Veterans Day parade at 9 a.m. will precede the ceremony, which is scheduled for 10 o'clock.
"The parade is gigantic...over 600 band members, 60 units, motorcycles," said Ted Tibbett, chairman of Hattiesburg's Veterans Committee. "It's going to be spectacular and I would think that everybody who loves veterans can show their support by being out here that day," Tibbett said.
Also on Wednesday, workers erected a temporary kiosk at Veterans Memorial Park which will honor Hattiesburg Vietnam War POW Col. George Robert Hall, who has been named the city's Veteran of the Year.
