PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Dedication of phase one of the Petal Veterans Walk of Honor is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The walk of honor is located in the parking lot behind the Petal Civic Center. Work began on the three phase project in May. Phase one contains plaques signifying each branch of the military as well as two different size stones with the names of veterans dating back to World War one.
When all three phases are complete the memorial will have a walk way with veterans names that will stretch from the back of the Civic Center to Relay Park. In the center of the walkway there will be a fountain and the flag pole will be illuminated 24 hours day. Benches will also be put in along the walkway.
The walk of honor is being built in a partnership between the City of Petal and a private committee headed up by Senator, and newly elected Highway Commissioner, Tom King.
Competition of the project will be based on how quickly donations come in. Stones to commemorate veterans can be purchased. Small stones are $50 and large stones are $100. Corporate sponsorships are also available.
For donation information call 601-583-3306.
