HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM) - Joining Phil Bryant at Thames Elementary Tuesday morning was Republican candidate for State Representative, Toby Barker.
Barker spoke to voters and supporters while making his rounds to area precincts. He says voter turnout in local precincts is on track to surpass 2007 numbers. Four hours into voting, precincts had already seen half the turnout from four years ago. He attributes this to voters interest in the future direction of the state, including the gubernatorial race and controversial amendments on the ballot.
Barker says his campaign has done everything it could do, and no matter the outcome, they'll feel good about it. "We've been walking the streets since April and we got through the primaries ok. So we feel like we've walked most the districts, sometimes twice, and we've done everything we can do. And we can say that at the end of the night no matter what happens, we feel good about it," said Barker.
Barker's opponent is Democratic Candidate, David Cook.
