HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) – Southern Miss junior all-purpose specialist Tracey Lampley garnered the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office on Monday in a vote by a panel of the league's media.
Lampley, from Waynesboro, Miss., returned three punts for 77 yards at East Carolina, including a 60-yarder for a touchdown to register his second career punt return for a score in a 48-28 victory. Lampley tallied his first punt return for a touchdown during his freshman year when he returned one 50 yards vs. Tulane in 2009. He is the third different Golden Eagle to win a special team honor this season.
He is the sixth different Golden Eagle to win a league weekly award and the seventh overall for the program this season. The seven award winners are the most for Southern Miss in a season since 2004 when that team captured nine accolades. This is the third consecutive year the squad has garnered three Special Teams Player of the Week awards during that campaign.
This season, Lampley leads the Golden Eagles in all-purpose yards as he has tallied 272 rushing, 300 receiving, 244 in punt returns and 228 in kick return yardage for a total of 1,044 in 2011.
