Alcorn State University turns crop into profit

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Alcorn State University Extension Program was in Hattiesburg today turning sugarcane into syrup.

The program had a mobile mill on wheels that goes from community to community helping small farmers turn their crops into profit.

The process takes about 3 hours. Today the extension program is extracting syrup from sugarcane grown on Vernon Dahmer's farm.

The Dahmer's plan to sell the syrup for profit.
