LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -The city of Laurel is about six weeks away from having a new fire station in north side of the city.
Chief Administrative Officer, Dennis Keveryn, said the Mississippi Fire Rating Bureau ordered the city to build a new fire station in a more central location.
The station had to be built in order for the city to maintain its class five fire rating with the state. Keveryn said all fire stations must be within five miles of any structure. He said building a new station is somewhat costly but it is beneficial for residents.
