Will the city of Laurel bring the Healthy Marriage Grant back?

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel city administration and council are at odds over healthy marriage.

During the last council meeting, the council voted four to three in favor of re-applying for the federal grant that is designed to promote marriage, but the mayor vetoed the order.

The Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Keveryn said keeping the healthy marriage grant was too much of a liability for the city, which had to pay costs like health care and insurance. Keveryn said although the grant will not fall under the city's umbrella anymore, the city will still benefit from the program when it moves to the Mississippi Extension Services.
