Southern Miss Holds No. 25 Ranking in Latest BCS Standings

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Southern Miss football team made its first appearance in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) rankings in seven seasons with its release Sunday night, holding a No. 25 position in the Top 25.

The Golden Eagles, which hold a 7-1 overall record and are 3-1 in the Conference USA East Division, have won six consecutive games and moved up to No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll earlier today. Southern Miss is the second highest in receiving points amongst schools outside the Top 25 in the Associated Press Poll.

The Golden Eagles are fresh off a league victory last night at UTEP, 31-13, and now travel to Greenville, N.C., this Saturday to face East Carolina in a key league divisional game.

This is the first time Southern Miss has been in the Top 25 of the BCS Standings since the 2004 season.
