HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi's leading small business organization has announced its support for Republican Toby Barker in the House Dist. 102 race.
Thursday morning, the National Association of Independent Business formally endorsed Barker at T-Bones Cafe' and Records in Hattiesburg.
The endorsement was made by the NFIB/Mississippi SAFE (Save America's Free Enterprise) Trust, which supports candidates who it says consistently supports small business.
"We look for folks who will not only just vote, but will go that extra distance, in committee and on the floor of the House of Representatives or in the Senate and use their voice...he is a voice for small business there," said Ron Aldridge, director of the National Federation of Independent Business-Mississippi.
"They represent the interest of so many small businesses, not just in Mississippi, but right here in Hattiesburg," said Barker. "For them to come out and say that we're the best person to grow small business, to grow our economy, is a real honor," he said.
Barker, who's seeking his second term, will face Democrat David Cook in the November 8 general election.
