HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM)- Hattiesburg tourism was celebrated today at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.
Officials from the state and Hattiesburg tourism industry were present for the 10th Annual Tourism Summit.
Director of Tourism for the Mississippi Developmental Authority, Mary Beth Wilkerson presented the crowd with the Magnolia state's new brand, "Find Your True South."
Both Wilkerson and Executive Director of Visit Hattiesburg, Rick Taylor says a state's brand is important for economic growth and a state's identity.
"Well, it is very important for the state to have a solid brand," said Wilkerson. We are all working collectively so people know who we are and what we are about when we talk about Mississippi tourism," said Wilkerson.
"Last year tourists put $225 million into our local economy and so we are here today to not only celebrate that, but to try to build on that and pull our industry together and go forward in these tough times but exciting times as well," said Taylor.
