HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM) - Several high school and college students honored those who lost their lives to alcohol relate incidents Monday night on Southern Miss campus.
The Wellness Ambassadors and Students Against Destructive Decisions hosted this community program. It consisted of testimonies from those who overcame the struggles from alcohol related events.
One testimony was from a Southern Miss student who lost a friend due to a drunken driver in 2010. The groups also honored a fallen Golden Eagle who lost her life due to violence that was amplified by alcohol and drug abuse.
Student consultant, Darryl Harris says it is important to get the message of substance abuse out since alcohol consumption is high on a college campuses.
"Alcohol affects everyone. Everyone from people that do not drink from the people that do drink. Just because you are not drinking you are still liable to get killed by someone who is drinking as well. So, it is very important because alcohol consumption is prevalent on a college campus," said Harris.
