Get the same quality with generic items

With the price of everything going up these days, consider this - you can save anywhere from ten to fifty percent by buying generic.

And topping our list of things to always buy generic - over the counter medicine.

No one wants to cheap out on their health - so you might think generic is iffy. Not so, say pharmacists. The Food and Drug Administration requires generic medicine to have the same active ingredients as the

brand names. And the savings on generics - about 60 percent!

Next on the list - bottled water. Aquafina admits its brand is made with tap water, so why buy name brand? The savings with generic - about 57 percent.

No one wants to skimp on baby, so most parents will go with brand name baby formula. However, the Infant Formula Act requires specific procedures for making all infant formulas. So paying $13 more for a

brand doesn't mean better quality.

Pantry staples like sugar, flour and salt are also held to government standards for production and storage. That's why walletpop.com argues you can't tell the difference in taste.

And finally - the biggest rip off - expensive cables for high def TV's. Salesmen usually get those shoppers who just spent a thousand bucks on a flat screen to spend another 100 or so for expensive cables.
Tech experts say the $12 cable makes the same connection and works just as well.

All proving that cheap is sometimes the better buy.
